Laboratory of Ecology and Evolution
The Laboratory of Ecology and Evolution (LEEV) Researchers are Principal Investigators on a diverse range of topics ranging from Natural History, Morphology, Taxonomy, Systematics, Biogeography, Cytogenetics, Molecular Biology, Biodiversity, Conservation, Ecology and Evolution of vertebrates (with focus on snakes, small mammals and spiders). The LEEV researchers also develop multidisciplinary researches, including collaborators of the Butantan Institute and from other institutions in Brazil and abroad.
All Principal Researchers are members of the faculty of postgraduate courses at the Universities of São Paulo (USP), Campinas (UNICAMP) and the Paulista State University (UNESP), and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
The laboratory is also responsible for the Butantan Institute’s “Serpentarium”, or “snake pit”, where the animals are exposed to public visitation; as well as for conducting educational activities.
